The U. S. Army traces its orgins to the Continental Army, which was formed in 1775 at the start of the American Revolution. In any war the ultimate key to victory is "boots on the ground," and this formidable military force has always provided the muscle and firepower that have been a key to victory in all America's wars.
In this exhibit you will learn about commisisoned and non-commissioned officers, enlisted men and citizen soldiers and see patches, crests and combat infantry badges. You will also learn about the Texas heroes and their accomplishments on and off the battlefield: Kasserine Pass with 26 survivors left in Mike Comella's unit, the occupation of Japan, paratrooopers in the Battle of the Bulge, the landing at Anzio, the D-Day landing on the beaches of Normandy and the ice and snow-capped mountains in Italy where the 10th Mountain Division fought with skis and ice grips on their feet.
